There are many other radiators listed ranging from about $59 to over $300. I'm mainly looking at Amazon because I just signed up for Prime and so would like to take advantage of 2-day shipping. That said, I do want a good enough quality and reliability so as not to be stranded, or have to repeat the repair, or worse yet, do more damage to what has been a bullet-proof engine. (And by the way, I do also own a Mazda3.) If it were a Protege I were fixing up, I would probably want to get parts suitable for a Protege. I look at it this way: I love my car, and the feeling I get from driving it, and the pride I have from owning it. I'm not a struggling student so I don't need to go dirt-cheap, but neither am I a one-percenter with more money than sense. And I refuse to overpay a premium for a new Mazda radiator (if in fact they even sell those anymore). So I don't think I need to go the Mishimoto route. ![]() I don't do track days or other racing or motorsports with it. I only drive the car on the roads for fun. There are reports of the tanks leaking at the crimp to the header. I'm looking at Amazon at the TYC 1140, but lately reviews are mixed as these come from China rather than Japan/Malaysia. And again, no overheating even with the water pump which will definitely fail soon. It is is showing the brownish-greenish tint which many say is evident of imminent failure, but I see no obvious signs of cracks or leakage. Since I have to take off the fans to do this, and as I'm going to order the upper & lower radiator hoses, I'm wondering about replacing the radiator itself. The water pump is knocking and I know it's about to fail, and there is a verrrry slight drip when running (I don't get any drips when the car is parked). I plan on driving it tomorrow until it starts running bad again then checking the fuel pressure.I'll update when I do.Īny ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. So I'm steeling my nerve to do a timing belt and water pump changeout on my '97 (manual), already ordered the parts. Didn't have time when I got home to check the pressure.ĭid I get a faulty pump from spectra or is it possible I did something wrong on the install? Drove it to town and back on the rear tank and it ran fine most of the way but did start to lose power about 3 miles from home, just not as bad as last time. This morning I checked the fuel pressure on both tanks, both showed about 32 psi at the rail. Put gas in it making sure the gauge wasn't wrong. Switched to the front (original tank) and it instantly corrected and ran perfect. A couple of days ago I was driving along about 55 mph and started noticing a significant power loss. ![]() Put about 300 miles on this truck since I installed the new tank and pump. It would have been 100 times easier without the bed on the truck, just not sure how big of a hassle it is to remove the bed. I've seen people say to remove the bed to do this. Gauge works perfectly and I haven't found any leaks (yet).Įven with all the cussing and bleeding it went fairly smoothly. ![]() When I was finished I dumped about 3 gallons of fuel in, turned the key on and off maybe 3 times and started it right up. Ended up "Repairing" the old one.Hope it holds. There were two sizes in the package, the 10.5mm was an exact match to the smaller (5/16' ?) clip but the bigger one I needed was too long to fit in the end of the fuel line. The replacements I bought at the local parts store didn't really want to fit. I bent it pretty bad when I removed the old pump. The only other issue with the install was the retaining clip on the larger (3/8" ?) fuel line. (The worst part was the razor sharp edges of the new tank, had to wear leather gloves the whole time which makes things a little trickier). ![]() I double checked the measurements before starting and it was a perfect match. It came with an extra connector to spice on to the pump but the one that was already attached was the one I needed. The tank did show up in good condition, the box was fine and the pump assembly was installed. (UPS can find our house, Fedex seems unable) Got the tank early this week after I found where Fedex had sat it by a tree at the end of our road.
